An Update for My Substack Readers

And a Request

I write this to inform you of some changes that are taking place here at “The Daily Lectionary.” We have seen an increase in subscriptions, number of readers, watchers, and listeners at Faith Seeking Understanding, and for that I am deeply grateful for all of you. I consider my writing and social media presence in its many forms to be a ministry.

In the past couple of months, I have felt led to increase what I offer in the way of writing and other media options. In order to do so, I am making a conscious decision to step back from other endeavors which have given me additional revenue in my retirement. In order to compensate for some of that revenue, I have decided to offer a subscription model for my Substack readers. Most of what is offered will remain free—The Daily Lectionary Reflections, links to podcasts and videocasts, and other special posts. It is always been my motto that Faith Seeking Understanding is a place where all seekers can ponder profound things free of charge and I intend to keep it that way.

But I am asking my readers if you might be willing to support me with a subscription? I not only want to continue to offer the same content, but I want to increase my writings. While I do have some books published and will continue to publish books, most of what I write is available online because I think that is the best medium for communication today. In addition, I want to begin to offer online Biblical, theological, and devotional studies in various formats—written, audio, and video. All of these will continue to remain free, but if you feel so inclined, I would appreciate a subscription in order to support my work. (Paid subscribers will also receive some additional benefits for their support.)

Some of you already know that I have been involved in teaching mission overseas to pastors in places like Cuba and Zimbabwe, where I offer many of the same kind of things I offer to you, which they find hard to access in their countries. While my work was halted by COVID, I plan to begin once again with a trip to Cuba in January and then Zimbabwe in February. On the horizon, there may also be opportunities to bring my teaching mission to Cameroon and Kenya. These missions are self-funded by me with some contributions from outside. While I view it as an ethical obligation on my part to self-fund my trips, a small contribution will also help to defray the cost making the burden a little lighter.

I very much appreciate all of you who are part of the Faith Seeking Understanding community. While this will always be a place for seekers to ponder profound things free of charge, I would be grateful for a little help from my friends.
