Hey, folks... Allan Bevere here informing you of some changes that are in the works. The motto of “Faith Seeking Understanding” over the years has been that it is “a place where all seekers can ponder profound things free of charge.” Beginning May 1st, “FSU” will no longer be completely free of charge, though I hope it remains a place for profound reflection. What are the reasons for this change?
I can no longer consistently count on income from teaching as an adjunct professor which almost fully funded my teaching mission overseas. Moreover, I need to step aside as an interim pastor to give full attention to my writing and pod/videocasting.
My teaching mission to pastors overseas is stepping up in my retirement and costs to fund that mission are rising. I have always been committed to paying as much of my way as possible, but having a little help from my readers will be great. In fact, I will be tithing revenue from my Substack subscriptions for that mission. While my video and podcast postings will remain free (except for possible future online courses), some of my written content will be available only to paying subscribers. Free subscriptions will remain, but there will be more postings behind a pay wall. Moreover, there will be additional benefits for paid subscribers including a periodic newsletter updating my teaching mission. Founding subscriptions will include a choice of one my e-books for free.
I am planning on publishing almost all my content online moving away from printed books, which have generated revenue. I will be publishing my books online, some of them all at once, and others chapter by chapter making them available for the price of a subscription. I am currently doing that with my series on the sermons of John Wesley and plan to do that with future writings.
The Daily Lectionary Reflections will continue to be posted, but only paid subscribers will be able to access all seven of them in a week.
Again, the free subscription option will remain. I have yet to decide what that means as far as free posting. Once I have decided on the benefits of free vs. paid subscribers, I will let you know.
As I will be stepping up my writing which involves more time and work, I hope you will consider supporting that endeavor.
The price for a subscription will remain the same: $5 a month, $50 annually ($4.16 a month), or a Founding Member for $100.
In the meantime, please offer feedback on these changes. I want to know what you think. All things will remain as they are until May 1st.
Thanks for being a loyal reader. I hope we will continue on this journey together.
I will be teaching, but it appears that it will be only periodically. I am teaching nothing this summer nor next fall. It is possible that might change, but I need to plan ahead. Thank you for your kind words.
If this means you would no longer be teaching courses at ATS, it will be a significant loss for the seminary.
