Franz Xaver Gruber (1787-1863) was an Austrian musician and composer, best known for his timeless Christmas carol, “Silent Night” (originally entitled Stille Nacht, Heilige Nacht in German). Born on November 25, 1787, in the village of Hochburg-Ach, near Salzburg, Austria, Gruber displayed a talent for music from a young age.
